Understanding the monastery of Saorge
• A strategic place.
Saorge was a very important strategic stronghold controlling the road
from Nice to Piedmont via the Tende pass. Recollect Franciscans settled
here in 1633 during the Catholic Reformation. Building of the
Notre-Dame-des-Miracles convent was completed in 1660.

SAORGE Remarquable Village perché de l'arrière pays niçois en bordure de la frontière italienne, dans la vallée de la Roya. Trois églises dont une au clocher lombard. Monastère merveilleux avec ses nombreux cadrans solaires. Orgue italien des frères Lingiardi originaire de Gênes. De très nombreux concerts toute l'année. Un festival international d'orgue. Un endroit de rêve pour l'élite intellectuelle.
